Intro to Merengue
You've been meaning to try this for a while now.
4 Wednesdays · Beginner Merengue · No partner needed · Bridgeport CT
There's a specific kind of wish that lives quietly in the back of your head.
You hear a song at a party and something in your body wants to move. You watch people on a dance floor and feel a pull you can't quite explain. Then the moment passes and you go back to doing the thing you always do at parties — standing near the food, holding your drink, telling yourself you'll try it someday.
Someday has been a while.
Merengue is where that changes. Not because it's easy — because it's designed to be learned. Steady beat. Clear steps. A room full of people who all started exactly where you are right now.
The thing stopping you isn't that you can't dance.
It's the image in your head of walking into a class where everyone else already knows what they're doing. Of being the one who's behind. Of someone watching you struggle and saying nothing, which somehow feels worse than if they said something.
That room is not this room.
Randy grew up in the Dominican Republic where merengue isn't a dance class — it's Sunday afternoon in the kitchen, it's a quinceañera, it's just life. He didn't learn merengue to perform it. He learned it the way you learn your first language. That's who's teaching you.
And he's spent years figuring out how to give that feeling to people who never had it growing up. The feeling that the music is yours. That your body already knows more than your brain is letting it believe.
"Highly recommend!! You guys are great instructors, made me feel very comfortable and happy. You definitely made my beginner experience wonderful! Looking forward to more!" — Millie
Week one you're figuring out your feet. By week two something shifts. Your shoulders stop being so tight. You stop counting under your breath. The music starts feeling like something to move with instead of something to keep up with.
That's the moment. It's different for everyone — sometimes it's week two, sometimes it's ten minutes into the first class. But it comes. And when it does, you'll think about all the parties you stood near the food at and feel a little annoyed at your past self.
In the best way.
"Rebecca and Randy are phenomenal dance instructors and provide a safe and fun environment. I completed the bootcamp and I am proud of my progress and will continue my journey with them." — Kevin
